28 March 2012

I know what you're thinking: long time, no update. This is true but, to be honest, there hasn't been a whole lot going on as far as the project is concerned.

I'm somewhere around 40% into writing the, currently, untitled, chapter of the series with 2 more to go.

The Kickstarter Project obviously failed, but I'm not letting it get me down (at least not too much). I'm doing some serious thinking about how best to proceed. I've decided that Dark Horse may not be the best company for me to submit to. I've found some more/newer small press publishing companies over the past couple of months and I feel like In the Dark of Daylight would probably be better suited there. Of course, that's up to the editors and the other folks in charge of those companies to decide.

If not that route, I'm still very seriously considering starting out as a web comic and moving on to self-publishing from there.

So those are the options I'm considering.

In other news, I was laid off in January...but now I'm employed once again in an even better position with much better hours and pay. Hopefully that means that, if necessary, I'll be able to offer at least some kind of monetary compensation for an artist at some point...but we'll see how that goes.

In the meantime, I'm finding artists here and there that are willing to do some art of the characters (mostly via deviantArt.com). I'm working on incorporating this art into the website, so we'll see how that goes too.

Pleasant Ostara/Easter to everyone and hopefully I'll be back with things to update soon!

15 December 2011

37 days to go on Kickstarter and we're still only at $5.00. I'm very, very sad to say it but, I don't think we'll be meeting the $6,000 goal. If we get to the end and it turns out the we definitely are not going to make it, I'm going to go ahead with my previous course of action and submit to Dark Horse. However, if I can't even raise the funds on Kickstarter.com, I doubt Dark Horse is going to take much, if any interest.

This concludes my pessimistic post for the day.

14 December 2011

I just finished submitting this website to Google to be listed on their search engine as well as the dmoz Open Directory.

Thanks to a lovely member of Kickstarter.com, the project may also be listed on a website of her creation. Here's hoping these additions will increase the progress of funding.

8 December 2011

It's finally done. The video is complete and the project has been launched on Kickstarter.com. You can view the project page here. Spread the word and donate if you can. 44 days until funding ends.

Also be sure to visit and 'like' the Facebook page.

Wish me lots of luck!

6 December 2011

Sad news, friends. I was not able to get around to finishing the video this weekend. My health has been failing me the past couple of months and this weekend brought me one of the worse days to deal with.

I can tell you, however, that it will be finished and uploaded no later than the end of this week. Hopefully it doesn't turn out too bad.

1 December 2011

I finally sat down and outlined my video for the Kickstarter project. I'm sure it's not really something that needs to be outlined, but I'm so nervous about doing it that I had to have something concrete to start from. Now that I've handled that, I'm actually kind of looking forward to it.

I don't work again until Monday, so I'll be working on this until then and will hopefully have the project launched by this weekend. My biggest concern after that is whether or not I'll meet my goal on time. Is December a bad time to do this? Or is it better since December is a month of giving for so many people?

I guess we'll all find out.

29 November 2011

Hopefully everyone out there in internet land had a nice Thanksgiving. I know I surely did. It was good to see my family and share with them all of the good news I've had lately in regards to this project.

I'm still slowly hacking away at my insecurity so that I can hurry and get my submission video finished and upload it to Kickstarter. In the meantime though, I've been discussing details with the guy who is likely to be the numero uno artist for this portion of the project.

I'm not announcing who he is just yet; I want to make sure everything is solid before I take that leap. Wish me luck that our communication has gone well and everything is understood on and workable on both of our parts. If so, concept art is not too far behind.

23 November 2011

Things are going well with the artist search. I've had over 30 applicants contact me and, so far, I've narrowed it down to around seven artists that I'm considering to take the position.

I also recently realized, after working on a properly functioning computer, that I can launch my project on Kickstarter without a video. The problem now, though, is figuring out whether or not that would be a wise decision. It is highly recommended to submit a video with the project...but me being me, I really don't want to be on camera. Then again, I really need to do what's best for this series.

I'll have it all sorted out soon. The video situation, that is.

Until then, I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. =)

20 November 2011

There's only one thing left to complete before I can launch my project on Kickstarter. All I have to do is create a short video of myself about the project. I can't really say I'm thrilled about putting myself on camera for the whole world to see, but it'll be worth it. Wish me luck and lots of confidence.

18 November 2011

As of today, the proposal I put out on Kickstarter.com has been accepted. I've already begin building the project details and as soon as I launch the project I have 30 days to reach the goal amount. I've got everything worked out, it's just about getting the project starter on the website to function properly so I can put all of it in.

More news as it comes, friends.

16 November 2011 - take II

The Art Positions area of the website has been updated. It now explains the new approach to finding an artist as well as the samples I'd like to see in order to make my decision. Feel free to browse the page and contact me if you are interested. Questions, comments, and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

16 November 2011

I'm trying not to jump the gun and set myself up for disappointment here but, shit I'm just too damn excited at the possibility right now. I received a response back from Kickstarter today and it looks like my project is going to be approved. That means that, once the goal is reached, I'll be able to hire an artist. The thought of just getting to hold a printed copy of my comic book in my hand and flip through those pages and see it in color pictures...AH! It gives me chills.
Wish us luck, internet people of the world.

15 November 2011

Just finished up submitting a proposal to have this product listed on Kickstarter.com. If all goes well, I'll actually have to money to hire an artist and then the money to get everything out in print. I can't even explain how excited I am at this possibility. First though, I have to wait for the project to be approved. Then I have to wait and see if anyone is interested enough to help me fund this. Hopefully it turns out the answer is 'yes' to both.
On another note, I've finally got my flow back after the re-organization of the chapters that I mentioned in the last post. The currently untitled chapter is being written and it should give some nice insight into the characters that I think everyone will enjoy.
Until next time.

5 October 2011

As announced on our Facebook page, a chapter has been added to the series call Reflections In Persephone. To see its placement in the storyline, you can view all of the chapter titles by clicking the Series Chapters link above.

4 October 2011

Where Dead Things Grow is taking a bit of time to get into the thick of the story. I've been through about four different introductions to this particular chapter and I'm working out which parts I like. I'm also continuing the long running search for a permanent artist. I'll make an update with that as things happen.

17 August 2011

The layout has changed slightly. You can now find the list of chapters and their progress by clicking the link above.

There are now two brief profiles on the Main Characters link above. More will be added as the story progresses. However, no further character information will be released until Innocence for Hire has been released with complete art.

You can now view the prologue preview on the website as well as on facebook. Navigate to the series chapters page and click the link for the preview.

Please remember, comments and emails with your thoughts, questions, and comments are always welcome and appreciated.

8 August 2011

Some exciting new to share with the world today! Sometime in the near future, In the Dark of Daylight will be submitted to Dark Horse publishing company. First, though, editing of all of the completed scripts needs to be done.

On a related note, Play Things is officially complete and Where Dead Things Grow is already in the writing stage.

Really looking forward to sharing more news on those subjects.

3 June 2011

It's been a long time coming but, there's finally news worth mentioning. There is a very good chance (again) that we will finally have an artist to help complete this project. It has been decided that In the Dark of Daylight will be a web comic first. Then, if all goes well on that front, we will start reconsidering putting the books in print.

Starting as a web comic makes arrangements much more convenient for any artist that we are likely to have on board, so here's hoping (with fingers, toes, eyes and nose crossed) that we can get this thing solid and moving.

Huzzah!

9 February 2011

Once again, In the Dark of Daylight has a website to go along with the blog (which is more of one massive rant, anyway). Hopefully we'll be able to put some interesting things together for you here. In the meantime, feel free to browse around and preview some things we already have in mind. More site updates will be added as soon as, well, we have some.

Cheers!
